All Iscte Research Units represented in “World’s Top 2% Scientists” list

Twenty-one researchers from Iscte – Lisbon University Institute were recently included in the “World’s Top 2% Scientists” 2025 list, compiled by Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier. This distinction identifies the world’s most influential scientists, corresponding to around 2% of all researchers globally.

The recognition covers the eight Research Units (RU) of Iscte – Lisbon University Institute:

Business Research Unit

Centre for International Studies

Centre for Research and Studies in Sociology

Centre for Research and Social Intervention

CRIA-Iscte - Network Centre for Research in Anthropology

Dinâmia’CET-Centre for Studies on Socioeconomic Change and Territory

ISTAR - Centre for Research in Information Sciences, Technologies and Architecture

Telecommunications Institute-Iscte 

The presence of the RUs highlights the diversity, vitality and scientific excellence of our institution and reinforces the international projection of the research carried out at Iscte, highlighting the relevance and impact of the scientific output of its lecturers and researchers.

‘The results reflect the continuous work of excellence and dedication of the Iscte scientific community, which contributes to the advancement of knowledge and the affirmation of Portuguese research at a global level,’ emphasises the Vice-Rector for Research and Technological Modernisation, Jorge Costa.

Stanford University's ‘World's Top 2% Scientists’ list is based on standardised data from Elsevier’s Scopus database and uses bibliometric indicators such as the number of citations, the h-index, and the c-score (with and without self-citations). Researchers are classified into 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields, following a rigorous model for assessing global scientific impact and influence.

The inclusion of 21 Iscte researchers in this prestigious list reinforces the institution’s leadership and innovation in both the national and international research landscapes.
