Iscte is a well-regarded Portuguese university that offers programmes in a wide range of fields at all levels of higher education. The university is particularly known for its strength in the social sciences, business, architecture and technology.

One of Iscte's main priorities is internationalization. Per this goal, the Institution collaboratives in a variety of initiatives that pursue the increased globalization of teaching, research and innovation. Through these initiatives, Iscte has defined a strong and lasting partnership policy that promotes its overall competitiveness as a global university.

Iscte's international cooperation efforts include its integration into networks and inter-university consortiums, its participation in a number of European education, training and research programmes, its support of student, teaching and non-teaching staff mobility, and its involvement in innovative partnership programmes.

To these ends, Iscte maintains approximately 700 cooperation protocols with Higher Education Institutions in a variety of countries, in particular the European Union member states, Australia, Brazil, China, India, the United States of America and the Portuguese-speaking African countries (PALOP).

Iscte’s cooperation with other universities is also evident in its awarding of cross-national degrees such as the European doctorate, as well as other joint doctorates and master’s degrees under joint supervision.
