O advento da globalização e a transformação do futebol numa enorme máquina económicofinanceira, mobilizadora de massas, alteraram a estrutura internacional, principalmente ao nível do soft-power., onde os eventos desportivos, se tornaram num instrumento ao dispor dos Estados e dos mass media, vocacionados para a construção de narrativas e discursos difusores do ideal nacional. Como tal, a presente dissertação procura analisar o fenómeno futebolístico enquanto agente identitário, tendo por base a realidade da Seleção Brasileira de Futebol, a fim de correlacionar as exibições, símbolos transmitidos pela mesma e narrativas em seu torno, com os símbolos que representa para a comunidade imaginada nacional, com o objetivo de perceber se é um veículo por excelência para a edificação e reforço dessa mesma comunidade. Em suma, o futebol e os mega-eventos desportivos modernos, tornaram-se, metáforas da Nação e da sua comunidade imaginada, permitindo a recuperação do passado, a valorização do presente e a atenção para com o futuro.

The advent of globalization and the transformation of football into a huge economic and financial machine, mobilizing masses, have altered the international structure, especially in softpower, where sports events have become an instrument at the disposition of the States and the mass media, aimed at the construction of narratives and speeches diffusing the national ideal. As such, this dissertation seeks to analyze the football phenomenon as an identity agent, based on the reality of the Brazilian Football Selection, in order to correlate the exhibitions, symbols transmitted by it and narratives around it, with the symbols it represents for the Imagined national community, with the purpose of realizing if it is a vehicle par excellence for the edification and reinforcement of thiscommunity. In short, football and modern mega-sporting events have become metaphors for the nation and its imagined community, allowing the recovery of the past, the valuing of the present and attention to the future.
