No presente estudo investiga-se a relação entre classes sociais e voto partidário em eleições legislativas a nível nacional, distrital e concelhio, em Portugal. A relação entre classes sociais e voto partidário constitui um núcleo central da sociologia e é um assunto com diversas perspetivas. Existe uma relação intrínseca entre democracia representativa e o recurso a eleições conduzidas através de linhas partidárias. Investigamos se existe conexão entre as classes sociais e a votação em partidos específicos e por bloco ideológico. Na tipologia de classes que utilizamos atribui-se um papel central aos indicadores sócioprofissionais. A ligação entre classes e voto partidário encontra-se relacionada com as questões dos realinhamentos eleitorais, que são mudanças nos padrões de voto, e com as questões dos desalinhamentos eleitorais, que são o potencial desaparecimento de padrões de voto. Conseguimos encontrar relações entre classes sociais e voto a nível nacional, distrital e concelhio. A análise distrital e local permite esclarecimentos adicionais na relação entre classes e voto partidário pois é nestes níveis que as classes sociais e o voto se diferenciam mais fortemente e em que se torna mais clara a definição de padrões de voto de classe.

In this thesis we research the connection between social classes and party voting in legislative elections and at the national, county and local level. The country we study is Portugal. This connection constitutes an important part of sociology. This thematic has different perspectives. There is an intrinsic relationship between democracy and elections conducted according to party lines. We enquire if there is a relationship between social classes and the vote according to specific political parties and according to the political left and the political right. In the definition of social classes we use a class tipology that uses socioprofessional variables. There are important issues that are connected to our study. Those issues are called the dealignement thesis and the realignement thesis. The dealignement thesis supports the disappearance of relationships between classes and the vote. The realignement thesis supports that this relation is changing in a profound way. We could find connections between social classes and party voting at the national, county and local level. The local level is crucial for the understanding of the connection between the variables we use because it shows clearer class voting patterns.
