A Internet e
No

The arrival of the twentieth-first century and all the technological innovations it has
brought along provided both new opportunities and new challenges to modern societies. The
Internet and the new media sources pervaded our daily lives making it now difficult to imagine a
life without them.
For the children who were born in this technological context, the use of mobile devices
such as mobile phones, is considered as natural as breathing. Accustomed to these new
technologies, this generation took over these devices by using and assigning them different
representations from those they were originally thought for. However, believing the we now face
a homogeneous younger generation which acts and thinks the exact same way, is actually a hasty
assumption as not all children have equal opportunities of accessing and using these devices.
In order to realise how this generation regards and uses mobile phones and which
differences exist within this age group, 10 children between the ages of 8 and 11 were interviewed.
Knowing that children are subject to a change in their study cycles, I have tried to assess in what
ways this new step influence the way they relate to technologies, particularly with mobile phones.
