Este trabalho teórico visa procurar, analisar e perceber as razões que levaram à depreciação de Fernando Silva (1914-1983), um arquitecto premiado, com diversas obras de renome em Portugal, particularmente na cidade de Lisboa. Para esse efeito investigaram-se dois temas capitais sobre essa questão, os prémios e as publicações do arquitecto. Tendo em conta, e como ponto de partida, a Dissertação de Mestrado da Arquitecta Isabel Monteiro (n.1973), o que se pretende fazer neste trabalho não é repetir o mesmo assunto, mas ir mais além daquilo que já foi investigado de maneira a ampliar o sentido da pesquisa que já foi tomada anteriormente. Analisando os prémios que Fernando Silva alcançou e as publicações onde foi mencionado, tenta-se desmistificar muitas das informações ocultas e díspares sobre o arquitecto. Outro motivo que me levou a fazer esta investigação, foi a consensualidade, em trabalhos sobre o arquitecto, na afirmação de um “Fernando Silva pouco referenciado”. Será Fernando Silva é um arquitecto da “geração esquecida”? Qual a razão para existir tão pouco interesse e informação sobre o arquitecto? Qual é o seu papel na reestruturação da cidade de Lisboa e nas suas periferias? Todas estas questões são abordadas nesta investigação, com o intuito de esclarecer algumas dúvidas que ainda existem sobre um dos arquitectos mais relevantes da arquitectura portuguesa do século XX.

This theoretical work aims to search, analyze and understand the reasons that led to the understating of Fernando Silva (1914-1983), an award-winning architect with many well-known projects in Portugal, mainly in Lisbon. For that matter, two capital themes were investigated, the awards and the publications about this architect. Taking into account, and as a starting point, the Master Thesis of the Architect Isabel Monteiro (b.1973), the goal/target it’s not to repeat this very same subject, but to go beyond what has already been investigated and to go deeper into the research previously made. By analyzing Fernando Silva’s awards and books/media articles referring to his work, the purpose is to demystify allot of the biased and hidden information about him. Another strong reason to further investigate this matter was the general idea that this architect was “the little referenced Fernando Silva”. Is Fernando Silva really an architect of the “Portuguese forgotten generation”? What’s the reason behind such little interest and scarce information about him? Which role does he play in the restructuration of the city of Lisbon and its suburbs? All of these issues will be addressed in this investigation, with the intention of clarifying some doubts still remaining about one of the most egregious architects of the Portuguese architecture of the 20th century.
