A água, elemento essencial para a vida das cidades, tem um papel determinante na qualificação das mesmas. É através de um olhar novo sobre o papel desse recurso no meio urbano que podem ser criadas sinergias entre os espaços infraestruturais, o espaço público e o espaço edificado, para que se relacionem harmoniosamente. À semelhança da infraestrutura legada do Aqueduto das Águas Livres, que conseguiu oferecer novos espaços qualificados à cidade de Lisboa, melhorando significativamente a qualidade de vida dos seus habitantes, a presente investigação surge da vontade de criar uma “ideia de cidade” em que se encontre uma nova estratégia urbana adequada aos dias de hoje em que, com generosidade, se resolvam os problemas relacionados com a crescente instabilidade climática, aproveitando cada oportunidade para melhorar a coesão urbana. O presente ensaio divide-se em seis capítulos, ou jornais, que funcionam tanto independentemente como em conjunto - neles se analisa o papel da água, em Lisboa, ao longo do tempo, e se reflete sobre novas formas de construir, que se adequem aos tempos presentes-, produzindo uma síntese dos argumentos necessários para sustentar uma nova abordagem arquitetónica sobre o futuro dos espaços que habitamos. Entangled Life, Chão Comum, Habitar e Durável/Reversível são os quatro motes propostos, através dos quais se estrutura a intervenção, a diferentes escalas: a da cidade, a do bairro, a do edifício e a da casa.

Water, an essential element in the life of cities, plays a significant role in their qualification. It’s through a new look regarding the role of this resource in the urban environment that synergies can be created between infrastructural spaces, public space and built space, so that they relate harmoniously. As well as the inherited infrastructure of the Águas Livres Aqueduct, that once offered new qualified spaces to the city of Lisbon, significantly improving the quality of life of its inhabitants, this research arises from the desire to create an “idea of the city” where a new urban strategy suitable for today is achieved, in which, with generosity, the problems related to growing climate instability are resolved, taking advantage of every opportunity to improve urban cohesion. This essay is divided into six chapters, or issues, which work both independently and together - they analyze the role of water, in Lisbon, historically, and reflect on new ways of building, which suit the present times -, producing a synthesis of the necessary arguments to support a new architectural approach to the future of the spaces we inhabit. Entangled Life, Common Ground, Inhabiting and Durable/ Reversible are the four proposed mottos, through which the intervention is structured, at different scales: the city, the neighbourhood, the building and the house.
