The present dissertation is part of the social and leisure history of Angola, as well as the
connected history. It intends to analyze the daily life of the inhabitants of the so-called
indigenous neighborhoods of Luanda. The intention of this proposal is to bring a different
approach to the one known in this period, which is the liberation war, but to essentially look at
the social life of Angolans who did not enlist in the forces of the different liberation movements
in Angola. Since, on the one hand, from 1961 the war was unavoidable, with the attacks of
February and March of the same year; on the other hand, social life in Luanda continued. Thus,
this proposal is centered on the process of urbanity in Luanda's neighborhoods and on the
sociability of the inhabitants, seeking to understand the conditions for gaining access to houses,
how they related to whites and other blacks, the type of work they performed, how main
activities and dances on weekends and evenings such as: sports, music, parties, recreational
spaces, cinema, theater, etc.
