Esta tese de mestrado tem como principal objetivo contribuir para os estudos de género reforçando o conhecimento científico sobre a sexualidade e o género, providenciando maior acesso ao conhecimento a toda a comunidade académica e ao público em geral. Tem como objetivo específico estudar, através de uma perspetiva comparativa, a forma como homens e mulheres vivem (teorizam e experienciam) o sexo e o sentimento amoroso, procurando encontrar semelhanças ou diferenças entre as práticas e as representações sexuais. Tratando-se de uma pesquisa desenvolvida no âmbito de um programa de mestrado em Estudos Internacionais, optou-se por desenvolver também uma abordagem comparativa com base na nacionalidade - portuguesa ou brasileira - dos homens e das mulheres, por forma a captar a influência desta variável nas práticas e as representações relativamente à sexualidade. Como população escolhida para a pesquisa, foi selecionada uma amostra de pessoas pertencentes à geração millennial, isto é, indivíduos nascidos entre 1982 e 2002, atores de um contexto de rápidas e significativas mudanças sociais e culturais. Como forma de encontrar possíveis desencontros entre a representação e a prática da sexualidade propomo-nos a desenvolver um estudo intensivo, recorrendo a entrevistas semi-diretivas como técnica de recolha empírica principal. A presente dissertação pretende, assim, contribuir para um maior conhecimento acerca do status quo da sexualidade no séc. XXI e, em particular, no referente à geração millennial Portuguesa e Brasileira.

The main goal of this master's thesis is to contribute to gender studies by improving scientific knowledge on sexuality and gender and providing greater access to that knowledge by the academic community and the general audience. Its specific objective is to study, through a comparative approach, the way men and women live (theorize and experience) sex and the feeling of love, seeking to find similarities or differences between sexual practices and representations. Being developed within the scope of a master's program in International Studies, this research also provides a comparison based on the nationality - Portuguese or Brazilian - of men and women, in order to capture the influence of this variable in the practices and representations regarding sexuality. The sample of the study was composed by people belonging to the millennial generation, that is, individuals born between 1982 and 2002, living in a context of significant social and cultural changes. To find possible mismatches between the representation and the practice of sexuality, we propose to develop an intensive study, using semi-directive interviews as the main data collection technique. This dissertation intends, therefore, to contribute to a greater knowledge about the status quo of sexuality in the 21st century, and, particularly, regarding the Portuguese and Brazilian millennial generation.
