Quality of research at Iscte recognized in international evaluation

Iscte’s eight research units were recently evaluated by an international panel from the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). In this multi-year evaluation process, Portuguese R&D units were ranked as “Good,” “Very Good” or “Excellent,” which determines their allocation of FCT funding.

FCT classified Iscte’s Business Research Unit (BRU) and Centre for Social Research and Intervention (CIS) as “Excellent,” and CEI, CIES, CRIA, DINÂMIA-CET, ISTAR and IT as “Very Good.” Per this evaluation, the FCT funding of these research units is renewed through 2023, as is FCT support for 30 scholarships for students in Iscte’s doctoral programmes.

The success of these units represents Iscte’s dedication to developing high-quality research with applications to various institutions, the economy, and broader society. In reference to BRU’s “Excellent” ranking, its director Maria de Fátima Salgueiro and subdiretor Jonas Oliveira noted: “This classification is the fruit of the relationship between the research of excellent quality we perform and the advantages it provides to the business world.”
