Marta Matos, a researcher at CIS-IUL, developed her PhD work, on chronic pain and the impact of formal social support on pain, entitled 'Healthy aging despite chronic pain: the role of formal social support for functional autonomy and dependence ', supervised by Sónia Bernardes (ISCTE-IUL) and co-supervised by Liesbet Goubert (Ghent University).

The results of this research are presented in the video we present below.

Findings confirmed that perceived promotion of autonomy has a protective role and perceived promotion of dependence is as risk factor to pain-related disability.
