A presente dissertação investiga a evolução da representação de gênero no cinema português, com ênfase nos períodos antes e depois da Revolução de 25 de Abril de 1974. O estudo foca na forma como personagens masculinos e femininas foram retratados ao longo das décadas, destacando as transformações nos papéis sociais, na sexualidade e no processo de emancipação. Para alcançar os resultados pretendidos, foram analisados onze filmes representativos de diferentes épocas, abrangendo todo o período em estudo. O objetivo é compreender se houve uma evolução significativa na forma como os géneros são representados no cinema português e qual foi o impacto da Revolução de Abril nessa mudança.

This dissertation explores the evolution of gender representation in Portuguese cinema, focusing on the period before and after the Revolution of April 25th, 1974. The analysis centres on how male and female characters were portrayed throughout the decades, highlighting the shifts in representation regarding social roles, sexuality, and emancipation. To achieve the desired results, eleven films from different eras were analysed, covering the entire period in question, to determine whether gender representation in Portuguese cinema has evolved and how the April 25th, 1974 Revolution influenced this transformation.
