Com o crescimento da população mundial, torna-se importante encontrar soluções sustentáveis para o sistema alimentar. Neste trabalho, procurou-se uma resposta arquitetónica para este desafio, através da elaboração de um plano de organização à escala urbana e do edifício, fechando o ciclo alimentar e estudando as implicações no projeto de arquitetura. Para isso foi necessário pensar em espaços para todas as fases do ciclo alimentar e analisar o potencial deste ser fechado na cidade universitária ou criar circuitos mais pequenos. Desta forma, avaliam-se criticamente as implicações urbanas e arquitetónicas da implementação de estratégias para um ciclo alimentar fechado no contexto da cidade universitária. À escala do edifício, o sistema foi integrado no projeto para uma residência de estudantes. É apresentada uma pesquisa relativa ao sistema alimentar, procurando interligar-se com a cidade de Lisboa. Um conjunto de casos de estudo é analisado com os objetivos de relacionar, no mesmo espaço, a produção alimentar e a venda dos produtos assim obtidos; de compreender a interação de espaços de habitação com a produção alimentar; de conhecer como reduzir a produção de resíduos orgânicos e deles tirar mais partido, reorganizando o espaço existente. Diante desta análise, verifica-se que fechar o ciclo alimentar de uma determinada área urbana não parece possível, por falta de escala, não se podendo olhar para o território de forma isolada da envolvente. Crê-se todavia que é possível encurtá-lo, economizando recursos e melhorando a qualidade de vida.

With the growth of the world population, it is important to find sustainable solutions for the food system. In this work, an architectural answer to this challenge was sought, through the elaboration of an organization plan at the urban and building scale, closing the food cycle and studying the implications in the architectural project. It was necessary to think about spaces for all phases of the food cycle and to analyze the potential of this being closed in the university city. In this way, the urban and architectural implications of implementing strategies for a closed food cycle in the context of the university city are critically assessed, being the system integrated into the project for a student residence. Research on the food system is presented, seeking to connect with the city of Lisbon. A set of case studies is analyzed with the objective of relating, in the same space, the food production and the sale of the products thus obtained; to understand the interaction of housing spaces with food production; to know how to reduce the production of organic waste and take more advantage of it, reorganizing the existing space. In view of this analysis, it appears that closing the food cycle of a given urban area does not seem possible, due to the lack of scale, and one cannot look at the territory in isolation from its surroundings. However, it is believed that it is possible to shorten it, saving resources and improving the quality of life.
