Entre 1933 e 1974, o Estado Novo foi o regime ditatorial que governou Portugal. Influenciado pelas ditaduras europeias, que surgiram na primeira metade do século XX, o Estado Novo inspira-se nesses regimes, auferindo características próprias devido à realidade do enquadramento social português. Durante estes quarenta e um anos, foram criadas várias organizações políticas de combate ao regime, ilegais de acordo com o sistema jurídico português. Este combate foi sempre desigual, obtendo várias formas e características de luta ao longo do tempo. A luta armada é uma das formas de luta contra o Estado Novo, com maior preponderância nos anos que precedem o fim do regime. Esta dissertação compromete-se a estudar o modo como é que a luta armada foi uma opção para a oposição, quais foram as organizações que a levaram avante e, por fim, qual a importância que as organizações armadas revolucionárias tiveram para a realização do 25 de abril de 1974.

Between 1933 and 1974, the Estado Novo was the dictatorial regime that ruled Portugal. Influenced by the European dictatorships, which emerged in the first half of the 20th century, the Estado Novo is inspired by such regimes, reaching specific characteristics due to the reality of the Portuguese social framework. During these forty-one years, several political organisations for the fight against the regime were created, illegally according to the Portuguese judicial system. This fight was always unequal, taking different forms and characteristics of struggle throughout the time. The armed struggle is one of the types of fight against the Estado Novo, with greater preponderance in the years that precede the end of the regime. This dissertation commits to study the way in which the armed struggle was an option to the opposition, which organisations pushed it forward and, lastly, what was the importance that the revolutionary armed organisations had in carrying out the revolution of April 25th of 1974.
