Esta dissertação trata de demonstrar que numa cidade composta de variados "layers" representativos das vivências e organizações que nela foram ocorrendo ao longo da sua existência é ainda possível sobrepor mais layers. Neste caso, tratamos de um layer que surge dos vazios sobrantes da construção de todos os outros layers existentes e que, maioritariamente, se encontra nos interiores de quarteirão. Este layer, acarreta o valor do desconhecido por parte da cidade, na medida em que estes espaços sempre foram encerrados e privatizados aos seus habitantes locais. No entanto, cada vez mais começam a ser pensados e visualizados como espaços intermediários entre o público e o privado, podendo assim serem considerados espaços coletivos que permitem criar uma rede de espaço público capaz de abranger uma área cada vez maior, desde a rua, ao jardim, à praça, ao interior de quarteirão. De forma a comprovar que estes espaços têm grandes potencialidades não só para o espaço em si como também para a qualidade de vida de todos os habitantes da cidade, foram analisados dois projetos no centro histórico da cidade de Lisboa, no sentido de perceber quais os objetivos e intenções que levaram à sua construção bem como os sucessos e ausências de cada um. Para que esta análise fosse ainda mais aprofundada, indo além de uma simples visita ao local e estudo da obra, foi também realizada uma entrevista a um dos arquitetos, autor de um desses projetos, para que fosse possível entender as preocupações necessárias para a criação de um espaço deste tipo, bem como tudo o que pode influenciar ou ser influenciado nestes espaços.

This dissertation is about demonstrating that in a city composed of various layers which are representative of the experiences and organizations that have been occurring in the city throughout its existence is still possible to overlap another layers. On this specific case, we are dealing with a layer that arises from the remaining voids of the construction of all other existing layers, mostly found in the interior of the blocks. This layer, which carries the value of the unknown by the city to the extent that they have always been closed and privatized to its local inhabitants, is increasingly beginning to be thought and viewed as intermediate spaces between public and private use. Thus, they can be considered collective spaces that allow to create a network of public space capable of covering an everlarger area by linking the street, the garden, the square and the interior of a block. In order to prove that these spaces have great potential not only for the space itself but also for the quality of life of all the inhabitants of the city, two projects were analyzed in the historical center of the city of Lisbon. The study of these spaces was born on the will of understanding which objectives and intentions had led to their construction, as well as comprehending basis for the noticeable successes and absences. In order to make this analysis even more thorough, going beyond a simple visit to the site and study of the work, an interview was also conducted with one of the architects responsible for one of these projects. Eventually, it was possible to understand better the concerns necessary for the creation of a space of this type, as well as everything that can influence or be influenced in these spaces.
