Apoiado numa iniciativa da Organização Mundial de Saúde, denominada Age-friendly Cities, que visa o envelhecimento ativo e inclusivo da população idosa nas cidades contemporâneas, o presente trabalho tem como objetivo refletir e encontrar outras formas de intervir mais flexíveis e integradoras. Nesse sentido, tendo como objeto de estudo o Bairro da Mouraria, onde a população envelhecida é muito elevada, é apresentada uma proposta de intervenção para o espaço público como expressão coletiva da sociedade com identidade. O trabalho estrutura-se em três partes: a primeira, expõe a base teórica relacionada com o tema em estudo; a segunda, analisa o Bairro da Mouraria, contexto histórico, estudo da problemática da gentrifcação, aumento do turismo e a perda de caráter do lugar. Descreve também um diagnóstico faseado do bairro e várias atividades realizadas para entender as pessoas que o habitam e nele intervêm; A última parte, apresenta uma solução de desenho do espaço público que procura promover o contacto entre as gerações, fortalecer o sentido de comunidade e induzir o crescimento da economia local, através de práticas urbanas de ecodesenvolvimento.

Based upon an initiative made by the World Health Organization, called Age-friendly Cities - one that envisions an active and inclusive ageing - the work that follows aims to reflect and fnd more flexible and integrative ways of intervention. In this sense, the object of study is the Mouraria neighbourhood, where the aged popuation is at a very high rate. The proposal of intervention for the public space comes through as a collective expression of a society with identity. The work is structured in three parts: the frst being a theoretical base related to the theme of this work; the second analyses the Mouraria Neighbourhood, the upcoming gentrifcation, the increasing tourism and loss of character in a place. It also describes a diagnosis made through several stages and activities to understand the people who live and interact in it. The third part presents a design solution for the public space that intends to promote the contact between generations, strengthen the sense of community and induce the growth of the local economy, through eco-development practices.
