Podemos encontrar comunidades ciganas espalhadas pelas aldeias, vilas e cidades ao longo de todo o país. Estas comunidades estão repletas de crianças que desde cedo acompanham os seus familiares nas tradições e costumes da etnia cigana. O objetivo desta dissertação é perceber se as crianças ciganas são discriminadas negativamente pelos educadores e sendo, de que forma o são numa instituição que deve servir em igual paridade todas as comunidades que acolhe. Para responder a todas estas questões, a minha recolha de dados centrou-se em três métodos: numa primeira fase, a observação flutuante, numa segunda fase, a observação apoiada em grelha e os focus group. De acordo com os dados recolhidos é possível afirmar existirem ténues indícios de um comportamento diferenciado em prejuízo das crianças ciganas, por parte dos professores, contudo estes elementos não são suficientemente fortes para podermos afirmar existir uma discriminação negativa. Quanto aos funcionários, estes apresentam evidências claras de um comportamento diferenciado pela negativa para com as crianças ciganas. Entre outros comportamentos, apresentam interações pouco interventivas para protegerem as crianças ciganas, o contrário se passa relativamente às crianças não-ciganas

We can find gypsy communities scattered throughout villages, towns and cities all over the country. These communities are full of children who accompany their families early in the traditions and customs of the gypsy ethnic group. The aim of this dissertation is to understand if gypsy children are discriminated negatively by their educators and, in what way, they are in an institution that should serve in equal parity all the communities it hosts. To answer all of these questions, my data collection focused on three methods: first, the floating observation, and in a second phase the grid-supported observation and focus group. According to the data collected it is possible to affirm that there are tenuous indications of a different behavior to the detriment of gypsy children by teachers. However, these elements are not strong enough to be able to affirm that there is a negative discrimination. As for school officials, they present one clear evidence of a behavior differentiated by the negative towards the gypsy children. Among other behaviors, they present little intervention interactions to protect gypsy children, the opposite is true for non-gypsy children.
