Não negamos a panóplia de oportunidades e benefícios que o desenvolvimento das tecnologias da informação representam para a actual sociedade. Contudo, a mesma noção de liberdade que foi construída em torno das mesmas cairá agora por terra, ao darmos lugar a uma concepção negativa da vigilância ligada à coerção e dominação do individuo. Assim, propomo-nos a reflectir sobre os moldes de actuação desta mesma vigilância num contexto online e de como esta poderá levantar questões relacionadas com a privacidade e identidade do próprio individuo. Serão analisadas as relações de poder executadas na Sociedade Disciplinar (Michel Foucault), que por sua vez nos permitirão perceber um conjunto de semelhanças e diferenças com a Sociedade de Controlo (Gilles Deleuze) e, desta feita, tentar compreender que relacionamentos de poder integram a actual Sociedade em Rede. Um dos nossos primordiais intuitos passa por demarcar os poderes e contra-poderes de cada um, ao mesmo tempo que concluímos firmemente a ideia de que é responsabilidade principal do individuo a tarefa de vigiar a vigilância.

It is not the aim of this investigation to deny the range of opportunities and benefits that the development of information technologies poses to society today. However, the same sense of freedom that was built around information technologies, now falls to the ground, opening the doors to the establishment of a negative conception of surveillance linked to coercion and domination of the individual. Being so, we propose to consider the patterns of activity of this same surveillance in the online context and how this may raise issues related to individual privacy personal identity. We propose ourselves to analyze the relations of power in the Disciplinary Society (Michel Foucault), which in turn will enable us to establish a set of similarities and differences with the Society of Control (Gilles Deleuze). From this, we propose ourselves to recognize and demonstrate that power relationships are part of the current Network Society. One of our prime motives is to demarcate the powers and counter-powers of each of them, and at the same time sustain the idea that the individual's primary responsibility is to watch over surveillance, that is, survey the surveillance.
