While well regulated financial systems are essential to macroeconomic stability, as
shown by the international crisis, dynamic financial markets can play a critical role in
allocating resources for productive investment and growth. This study provides an
overview of the financial market in Central Africa, identifying the main obstacles to its
development and suggesting recommendations for improving its efficiency.
The delimitation of our study is necessary for a thorough analysis and a synthetic ap-proach. Indeed, the financial market of Central Africa is composed of two stock ex-changes: one with a national character, the Douala Stock Exchange located in Came-roon, and the other regional, the BVMAC. Our study will focus on the latter. After the
analysis of the performance of BVMAC during the first years of its existence, we
present some recommendations regarding the improvement of its functioning.
