O presente trabalho de Projeto Final de Arquitetura, tem como base a resposta ao “Concurso Público de Conceção para a Elaboração do projeto da Biblioteca Municipal de Setúbal”, realizado em 2013, no entanto, sendo um trabalho desenvolvido no âmbito académico, foi proposta uma nova localização, o Bairro de Benfica. O projeto consiste na realização de uma biblioteca municipal para o bairro, de modo a combater as suas carências e com o intuito de criar um centro de aprendizagem e lazer num terreno do Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa, atualmente vazio. Uma vez que este espaço se encontra rodeado por escolas do Ensino Superior, uma Escola Secundária e Escolas Primárias, é propício ao convívio entre estudantes de várias idades, sendo um ponto de encontro geográfico existente. O objetivo do trabalho é responder, com o máximo rigor ao programa do concurso, simular a prática da profissão e questionar a relação Arquitetura-Cidade. Deste modo, a primeira abordagem do projeto consiste na análise do bairro relativamente à história, morfologia e evolução. A perceção do lugar de intervenção permite questionar o programa e adaptá-lo ao local, consoante as suas características. A análise de outras bibliotecas, casos de estudo de referência mundial, foi fundamental para a realização do presente trabalho. The present work of Final Architecture Project is based on the response to the competition “Concurso Público de Conceção para a Elaboração do projecto da Biblioteca Municipal de Setúbal”, held in 2013. Since this work is developed in an academic context, it is proposed a new location, Benfica. The project is to build a municipal library for the neighbourhood in order to address its needs, with the aim of creating a cultural centre for learning on a plot of land owned by the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon, which is currently empty. The local is surrounded by universities, high schools and primary schools making it a natural geographical meeting point for students of different ages. The aim of the work is to respond to the competition program, to simulate the practice of the profession and to question the relation between Architecture and the City. Therefore, the project’s first approach is the analysis of the neighbourhood through various studies regarding its history, morphology and evolution. The perception of the intervention site allows the program to be adapted to the site according characteristics. The analysis of other libraries was very important to the development of the work. Other references, that supported the decision-making and allowed for the realization of the final proposal, were also used during the work. The final proposal pretends to respond to the program, connect the every part of the intervention place, make a fusion point between the students of various ages, and make the space walkable and stimulating.
