A Literacia em Saúde tem-se afirmado, ao longo do tempo, como um campo de investigação em constante evolução, com forte impacto social e económico. A sua relevância decorre da relação direta entre a capacidade de compreender e aplicar informação em saúde e os níveis de qualidade de vida e bem-estar dos indivíduos. Conhecer os níveis de literacia em saúde da população é, portanto, um passo crucial para que profissionais e gestores possam conceber estratégias orientadas para melhorar a compreensão dos cuidados em saúde e promover uma gestão mais eficiente e centrada nas necessidades reais da população. O objetivo deste trabalho é assim avaliar e caracterizar o grau de literacia em saúde dos utentes da Associação Protetora de Diabéticos de Portugal, e avaliar o seu impacto na gestão de serviços e assim desenvolver estratégias de otimização. Foi utilizado o European Health Literacy Survey Questionnaire (HLS-EU-Q16), na versão portuguesa, juntamente com um questionário com questões para caracterizar o perfil sociodemográfico, os hábitos e conhecimentos de saúde dos respondentes. A amostra deste estudo é constituída por utentes da APDP de ambos os géneros, com idades compreendidas entre os 21 e os 93 anos, perfazendo um total de 174 indivíduos. Os resultados obtidos indicam que a maioria dos indivíduos apresenta níveis de literacia em saúde inadequados ou problemáticos (51,2%) e apenas 5,2% níveis excelentes. Verificouse também uma correlação, ainda que fraca, entre o grau de escolaridade dos indivíduos e a sua literacia em saúde.

Health literacy has established itself over time as a constantly evolving field of research with a significant social and economic impact. Its relevance stems from the direct relationship between the ability to understand and apply health information and individuals' quality of life and well-being. Understanding the population's health literacy levels is therefore a crucial step for professionals and managers to design strategies aimed at improving their understanding of healthcare and promoting more efficient management focused on the population's real needs. The objective of this study is to assess and characterize the health literacy level of users of the Portuguese Diabetes Protection Association, assess its impact on service management, and develop optimization strategies. The Portuguese version of the European Health Literacy Survey Questionnaire (HLS-EUQ16) was used, along with a questionnaire with questions to characterize the sociodemographic profile, habits, and health knowledge of respondents. The sample for this study consisted of APDP users of both sexes, aged between 21 and 93, totaling 174 individuals. The results indicate that most individuals have inadequate or problematic levels of health literacy (51.2%), and only 5.2% have excellent levels. There was also a correlation, although weak, between individuals' level of education and their health literacy.
