O crescente consumo de recursos a nível mundial levou à procura de novos métodos e processos mais ecológicos que permitissem reduzir os impactos ambientais gerados, onde se inclui a utilização de energias renováveis. Para uma melhor integração destes novos métodos e processos, é necessário estudá-los e medir os seus impactos, nomeadamente no domínio das pequenas e médias empresas (PMEs). Contudo, a criação de um modelo de análise para esta problemática é algo bastante complexo e subjetivo, já que os contextos de aplicação destas métodos e processos possuírem características distintas. De forma a ir ao encontro dos múltiplos critérios que têm de ser considerados no processo de decisão, e de modo a colmatar algumas das limitações dos modelos mais genéricos, a utilização de técnicas de mapeamento cognitivo combinadas com a técnica DEcision MAking Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) torna possível a construção de um modelo mais completo, transparente e informado no domínio do impacto das energias renováveis na conduta das PMEs. Com base em sessões intensivas de trabalho de grupo presencial com um grupo de especialistas em energias renováveis, foi possível identificar as principais áreas onde são verificados os impactos mais relevantes, nomeadamente: Social; Tecnologia; Contexto Político; Contexto Ambiental; Contexto Económico; e Contexto Corporativo. A identificação destas áreas permitiu, deste modo, uma melhor compreensão das relações causais entre si e, posteriormente, uma melhor interpretação do problema em estudo. As vantagens e limitações da utilização das técnicas apresentadas são também objeto de análise.

In recent years, the increasing consumption of resources all over the world has caused alarm. This problem led to the need for more ecological solutions and processes, including the use of renewable energies, which allow the environmental impact to be reduced. In order to find a way to improve the integration of these new solutions and processes, it is necessary to study and measure the impact they have, namely in the field of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). However, the evaluation of the impact of renewable energies on SMEs is not as easy as it seems. This requires the creation of an analysis model to mitigate the limitations of recent studies and, at same time, deal with this complex and subjective topic. Hence, the combined use of cognitive mapping techniques and the DEcision MAking Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) method allow for the development of a more complete, transparent and informed model that can help to make better management decisions in this study context. Grounded on intensive group work sessions with renewable energy specialists, we found that it is possible to fill some limitations of the most generic models. For a better interpretation of the problem, it is essential to identify the most relevant indicators and then understand the cause-and-effect relationships between them. The results were validated by the panel members and a member of the Portuguese Association for Renewal Energies (i.e., APREN in Portuguese). The advantages and limitations of our proposal are also presented.
