O presente relatório analisa o impacto da crise habitacional em Portugal no acesso ao Ensino Superior (ES). Nos últimos anos, o país tem enfrentado uma crise habitacional que tem afetado negativamente a vida de muitos cidadãos. Devido aos altos preços de compra e aluguer dos imóveis, muitas pessoas têm dificuldade em encontrar uma residência adequada, o que se reflete em implicações negativas em diferentes áreas, nomeadamente no acesso à educação. Este estudo tem como objetivo compreender como os elevados custos de habitação influenciam o acesso e a persistência de jovens estudantes nas Instituições de Ensino Superior (IES). Muitos estudantes são obrigados a deslocar-se para as áreas urbanas devido à concentração de IES e à variedade de cursos oferecidos. No entanto, o aumento desproporcional dos preços da habitação em relação ao rendimento médio das famílias tem criado barreiras significativas para os estudantes. Este estudo procura complementar a literatura ao analisar como a crise habitacional afeta diretamente as decisões educacionais e a equidade de acesso ao ES. Além disso, investiga os custos de oportunidade enfrentados pelas famílias e as estratégias adotadas para permitir que os estudantes continuem os seus estudos. Para tal, foi realizada uma pesquisa por meio de questionários online, onde os participantes foram questionados sobre as suas condições habitacionais e como a crise habitacional influenciou as suas oportunidades de acesso ao ES. Os resultados indicam que a crise habitacional tem um impacto significativo no acesso ao ES para jovens provenientes de regiões fora das grandes cidades.

This paper analyzes the impact of the housing crisis in Portugal on access to Higher Education (HE). In recent years, the country has been facing a housing crisis that has negatively affected the lives of many citizens. Due to the high purchase and rental prices of real estate, many people have difficulty finding a suitable place to live, which has negative implications in different areas, namely access to education. This study aims to understand how high housing costs influence the access and persistence of young students in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Many students are forced to move to urban areas due to the concentration of HEIs and the variety of courses offered. However, the disproportionate increase in housing prices in relation to average household income has created significant barriers for students. This study seeks to complement the literature by analyzing how the housing crisis directly affects educational decisions and equity in access to HE. In addition, it investigates the opportunity costs faced by families and the strategies adopted to enable students to continue their studies. To this end, a survey was conducted using online questionnaires, in which participants were asked about their housing conditions and how the housing crisis influenced their opportunities to access higher education. The results indicate that the housing crisis has a significant impact on access to higher education for young people from regions outside large cities.
