O Brasil é o país com a maior comunidade japonesa fora do Japão, contendo cerca de 1,9 milhão de nikkeis. Como é possível imaginar, muitos itens da cultura japonesa foram trocados e assimilados durante esse processo. Um desses itens culturais que passou a ser muito consumido e utilizado no Brasil, são os quadrinhos japoneses, popularmente conhecidos como “Mangá”. A presente Dissertação tem como intuito compreender melhor as transferências culturais ocorridas entre os dois países através do objeto “Mangá” e extrapolar suas funções em território brasileiro. Para isso, utilizamos primeiramente de uma abordagem histórica do mangá, passando para sua inserção em solo brasileiro e finalizando com as diferentes frentes em que o mangá atua, sendo estas a componente do artista, dos leitores e das instituições.

Brazil is the country with the largest Japanese community outside Japan, with about 1.9 million Nikkei. As it is possible to imagine, many items of Japanese culture have been exchanged and assimilated during this process. One of these cultural items that became widely consumed and used in Brazil are Japanese comics, popularly known as "Manga". The present dissertation aims to better understand the cultural transfers that occurred between the two countries through the object "Manga" and to extrapolate its functions in Brazilian territory. To do so, we will first use a historical approach to manga, moving on to its insertion in Brazilian history and ending with the different ways in which manga acts, these being the component of the artist, the readers, and the institutions.
