Um dos fatores preponderantes para uma gestão eficaz numa organização é a capacidade de liderança dos seus profissionais. Através das relações humanas e com foco nos objetivos e ideais a alcançar, o líder deve estar apto a motivar, inspirar e partilhar conhecimento com os seus liderados. É fundamental o investimento na aquisição de competências que potenciem a capacidade de ultrapassar desafios e adversidades, dominar os processos institucionais e fomentar um bom ambiente profissional. Devido à natureza das funções dos profissionais das Forças e Serviços de Segurança (FSS), os polícias devem ter determinados atributos e competências no campo da liderança apropriados que permitam garantir a sua segurança e uma resposta eficaz na manutenção da ordem e da segurança públicas e no combate à criminalidade. Neste âmbito, foi efetuada uma revisão de literatura sobre o tema da liderança nas FSS e optou-se pelo método quantitativo na metodologia, desenvolvendo-se um inquérito por questionário de modo a compreender de que forma os profissionais das instituições policiais encaram a importância e o impacto que o tema pode ter na sua atuação. Os resultados permitiram concluir que a liderança é percebida como uma ferramenta essencial no seu âmbito profissional e não deve ser negligenciada, mas sim promovida, desenvolvida e dinamizada na cultura institucional das FSS. Foi também possível constatar que uma parte significativa da amostra em estudo acredita que a formação nessa área tenha um impacto positivo tanto na sua esfera profissional como pessoal.

One of the main factors for an effective management in an organization is related with the leadership skills of its professionals. Through human relationships and focusing on the goals and ideals to be achieved, the leader must be able to motivate, inspire and share knowledge with his followers. Investment in the acquisition of skills that determine the ability to overcome challenges and adversities, master institutional processes and foster a good professional environment are essential. Due to the nature of the functions of professionals in the police forces, police officers must have certain skills in the field of effective leadership that guarantee their security and an effective response in maintaining public order and in the fight against criminality. In this context, a literature review was carried out on the topic of leadership in the police forces and services. Regarding the methodology we opted for the quantitative method therefore, a questionnaire was shared among police professionals with the goal of understanding how professionals from police institutions perceive the importance and impact that this topic can have on their performance. The results allowed us to conclude that leadership is perceived as an essential tool in the police sphere and should not be neglected but promoted, developed and dynamized within the institutional culture of the police forces and services. It was also possible to verify that a significant part of the study sample believe that training in this area has a positive impact both in their professional and personal spheres.
