As Tradições Académicas Portuguesas são desde a sua criação alvo de curiosidade e escrutínio social, nomeadamente no uso do Traje, a Praxe, a ligação ao fado de Coimbra, as Tunas e os Jantares Académicos. Este mundo, as suas tradições e símbolos levantaram alguma curiosidade na população que procurava conhecer o que estava para lá dos muros da Universidade de Coimbra e mais tarde das diferentes variantes por todo o país. Isto levou às primeiras interações entre a Comunicação Social e as Tradições Académicas Portuguesas. Apesar disso, a Comunicação Social tem um papel de influenciador de opiniões da população sobre os determinados temas da sociedade. Este trabalho de investigação pretende perceber o impacto dos Meios de Comunicação Social na forma como As Tradições Académicas Portuguesas são vistas e interpretadas pela sociedade. Após investigação tornam-se mais claras as razões para as mudanças na forma como as Tradições Académicas Portuguesas eram vistas. Para tal foram escolhidos momentos chave, como é o caso da Revolta dos Estudantes no final da Taça de Portugal de 1969 e a Tragédia do Meco, onde de uma forma positiva ou negativa, as Tradições Académicas fizeram as capas de jornais, revistas filmes e reportagens jornalísticas.

The Portuguese Academic Traditions are targets of curiosity and social scrutiny since their creation. Then arises the use of the Traje, the Praxis, the connection to Coimbra´s Fado, the Tunas and the academic dinners. The curiosity about this world, its traditions and symbols raised some curiosity in the population that tried to know what was beyond the walls of the University of Coimbra and later on the different variants throughout the country. This led to the first interactions between Social Communication and Portuguese Academic Traditions. Despite this and, whether intentionally or not, Social Communication has a role of influencing opinions on certain topics in society. In this way, this research work aims to understand the impact of the Media in the way The Portuguese Academic Traditions are seen and interpreted by society. After investigation the reasons for changes in the way the Portuguese Academic Traditions were seen became clearer. For that key moments were chosen, such as the Student Revolt at the end of the 1969 Portuguese Cup and the Tragedy of Meco, where in a positive or negative way, the Academic Traditions made the covers of newspapers, magazines, films and journalistic reports.
