A dissertação “Arte ativista ou Ativismo artístico? Da conceção Beuysiana de Escultura Social ao caso português Campanha Linha Vermelha” propõe uma reflexão sobre as convergências entre práticas artísticas e ativismo contemporâneo, com enfoque no contexto ambiental e social. Através da análise da ideologia e obra do artista alemão Joseph Beuys, cuja prática artística é desenvolvida no contexto dos novos movimentos sociais, que caracterizam as décadas posteriores ao fim da Segunda Grande Guerra, e o estudo do atual projeto ativista português Campanha Linha Vermelha, inserido nos mais recentes movimentos sociais que lutam pela justiça climática, a dissertação investiga as intersecções de conceitos e práticas artísticas que circunscrevem a contemporaneidade, a nível social, político e cultural. A partir da contextualização histórica da problemática das alterações climáticas na sociedade, e o seu paralelismo com a mobilização cívica e práticas artísticas, a dissertação pretende ser um contributo para um melhor entendimento das relações entre a ciência, os movimentos sociais e o universo da arte contemporânea, e o modo como ações coletivas artivistas podem contribuir para a formação de indivíduos autónomos e críticos, potencializando a sua voz na esfera pública. Pretende-se também que seja uma ferramenta útil para a conquista de um espaço que permita aos Estudos da Cultura e das Artes criar uma visão mais abrangente sobre o que compreende as práticas artísticas na atualidade. Neste sentido, propomos repensar as ações ativistas que recorrem a práticas artísticas enquanto domínio da Arte Contemporânea e a possibilidade de atribuição de valor patrimonial cultural imaterial às mesmas.

The thesis “Activist art or Artistic activism? From the Beuysian conception of Social Sculture to the portuguese case Red Line Campaign” proposes a critical thinking about the convergences between artistic practices and contemporary activism, focusing on the environmental and social context. Through the analysis of the german artist Joseph Beuys’s ideology and work, whose artistic practice is developed in the context of the new social movements that took place during the decades after the end of the Second World War, and the study of the present portuguese activist project Red Line Campaign, which is part of the most recent social movements that fight for climate justice, the thesis investigates the intersections of artistic concepts and contemporary practices, at a social, political and cultural level. Based on the historical contextualization of the climate change problematic and its parallelism with civic mobilization and artistic practices, the thesis aims to contribute to a better understanding of the relationships between science, social movements and the contemporary art’s universe, as well as the way in which collective artivist actions can help to educate autonomous and critical citizens, with a voice in the public sphere. It is also intended to be a useful tool for conquering a space that allows the Cultural and Art Studies to create a more comprehensive view of what artistic practices involve today. In this regard, we propose the rethinking of the activist actions that take use of artistic practices in the field of Contemporary Art and the possibility of attributing them intangible cultural heritage value.
