Antónia Pedroso de Lima graduated in Anthropology at ISCTE (Lisbon, 1987), has a MA in Urban Anthropology from Barcelona University (Tarragona, 1991), an MA in Sociology of the Family ISCTE (1993), Ph.D in Anthropology (ISCTE 2001) and Habilitation in Anthropology (ISCTE, 2020). She is the Head of the Department of Anthropology at ISCTE, where she is based since 1989, former President of CRIA, the National Research Centre in Social Anthropology (Portugal), former member of the scientific Committee of Openedition (CNRS) and founder of the LusOpenedition (Lusophone Countries) and former member of the National Committee for the Intangible Heritage (Portuguese Ministry of Culture). She is the Director of the Interdisciplinary MA Program on Gender and Sexuality Studies. Specialist on kinship theory, gender and contemporary family relations Antónia Lima is the author of numerous publications on family in Portugal (focusing both on working class neighbourhoods, middle class families and economic elite), gender, emotions, care, austerity and precarity. Her present research interests are on family relations, gender, care, social reproduction and precarity. Since 2014 Antónia pedroso de Lima is one of the directors of Olhares do Mediterrâneo - Women's Film Festival, the first Portuguese film festival dedicated to women in cinema.

Pedro Vasconcelos completed his graduation in Sociology (Licentiate degree) in 1995 at Iscte - University Institute of Lisbon, his Research Master's Degree in Social Sciences in 2002 at the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon, and his Doctorate in Sociology at Iscte in 2011 (all Pre-Bologna Process). He teaches at graduate and post-graduate levels since 1996 at Iscte. Since 1992 he has participated in several research projects about issues such as categorization processes, social representations and identities, family and social class, generations and values, family and youth, sexuality, social networks, kinship, social inequalities, gender and transgender issues. Presently his main interests are about social and sociological theory, social inequality and multidimensionality, gender, class and racialization/ethnicity. 

Catarina Frois é Professora Associada (com Agregação) do Departamento de Antropologia. É autora de vários livros e artigos nacionais e internacionais com especial ênfase para a esfera das políticas de segurança, encarceramento, controlo e tecnologias de vigilância.

I completed my Ph.D. in Social Psychology at Iscte-Instituto Universitário de Lisboa (Iscte) in 2010. Since then, I have been mostly focused on my research career. Among other scientific production, I have (co-)authored severalinternational peer-reviewed papers and book chapters (e.g., The Oxford handbook of evolutionary psychology and romantic relationships). Most of this production was published in collaboration with international (e.g., Brighton and Sussex Medical School; Texas State University) and national research networks (e.g., Faculdade de Psicologia e Ciências da Educação da Universidade de Coimbra). My research recently received an Honorable Mention for Best Psychology Paper by The Journal of Sex Medicine, and I received an award from the Center for Open Science in 2018 for transparency and good practices in research. I have also pedagogic publications (e.g., how to improve scientific communication). During this time, I participated in national and international scientific events (oral and poster presentations), I was invited to talk about my research to broader audiences (e.g., Sexual Health Alliance), and took part in activities aimed at disseminating science to the general public (e.g., Social Observatory of the “la Caixa” Foundation; 90 Segundos de Ciência) and tackling social relevant social issues (e.g., prevent extremism and radicalization). I have also participated in several projects with competitive funding (e.g., Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, European Commission), I am currently the principal investigator of a “la Caixa” Foundation project and an individual project funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, and I have obtained funding from CIS-Iscte for various projects (most of which included the supervision of undergraduate and Master’s students).    Currently, my main research interests are focused on understanding: (a) if and how individual motives for security and pleasure shape sexual behaviors and sexual health practices and (b) the roots of social stigmatization against minority groups (e.g., individuals in consensual non-monogamous relationships; asexual individuals). Other research interests are linked with the work of my collaborators and/or students and include the role of sexual behaviors (e.g., pornography use) on relationship dynamics (e.g., sexual satisfaction); the impact of visual cues (e.g., emoji) for digital communication outcomes; the role of social support for individual and relationship functioning; or the development and validation of databases and instruments (e.g., image databases including facial expressions; development of new measurement instruments).   I have always been committed to the training of young researchers and students. My supervision experience includes several Master’s students, research fellows, and several research internees. I have also participated in multiple academic juries in different academic institutions, serving as Discussant or President. I currently (co-)supervise Ph.D. students (some of which received grants from Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia) and Master’s students. My supervision work has resulted in publications (e.g., Carvalho & Rodrigues, 2022) and presentations at scientific events (e.g., 2021 SSSS Annual Conference), and one of my students received the Best Student Manuscript Award 2022 from the International Academic of Sex Research. My teaching experience includes undergraduate and graduate courses, mostly related to interpersonal relationships (e.g., Person Perception and Interpersonal Relations; Psychology of Interpersonal Relationships: Social and Organizational Contexts), methods (e.g., Psychometrics), and research skills (e.g., Academic Competencies II; Research Seminar in Psychology - Advanced Methodologies). Other teaching experience include being an invited lecturer (e.g., ISMAT; Universidade de Évora) to teach undergraduate courses in different Psychology domains (e.g., Social Psychology) or to give methodological workshops (e.g., E-Prime; Qualtrics).   Lastly, I have experience in management and scientific positions. I am currently an elected member of the Scientific Committee at CIS-Iscte and over the years I have, among other activities, served as a member of the Scientific Committee for multiple scientific events, been part of the Editorial board of different scientific journals, reviewed funding applications, coordinated the Behavior, Emotion, and Cognition research group at CIS-Iscte, and served as the Vice-President of the Associação Portuguesa de Psicologia.

Dulce Morgado Neves completed her PhD in Sociology from ISCTE-IUL (2013), presenting a thesis entitled "Intimacy and Sexual Life: changes and continuities from a gender and generation based perspective". She is a researcher at CIES-Iscte and her main research interests are related to gender, sexuality, childbirth, parenting and social movements. Currently, she coordinates the research projects “Childbirth Activisms in Europe: trajectories, modes of action and achievements” (2018-2024) and “ABRIL MATER: motherhood and childbirth before and after the Revolution” (2023-2024), funded by FCT. She is the co-founder and co-coordinator of the Laboratory for Social Studies on Childbirth – nascer.pt,  a research hosted, launched in 2017, hosted by CIES-Iscte.   

Giulia Daniele is Assistant Professor at the History Department of the University Institute of Lisbon (Iscte). She is Deputy Director of the Centre for International Studies (CEI-Iscte) and of the Master in International Studies (MEI) in the same university.  She completed her Ph.D. in Politics, Human Rights and Sustainability under a co-tutelle agreement between the Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies (Italy) and the University of Exeter (UK) in 2012. She has conducted fieldwork researches across the Middle East and North Africa, especially in the West Bank, Gaza Strip, Israel and Tunisia. She has also been engaged with international organisations and cooperation projects.  Her main research interests extensively cover the intersection of Middle East politics with a focus on Palestine and Israel, social movements, gender and feminist studies, conflict resolution, settler colonialism, and ethno-national narratives. Her first book is entitled Women, Reconciliation and the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict: The Road Not Yet Taken (Routledge, 2014 hardcover and 2018 paperback). Among her latest articles: "Intersectional Politics and Citizen Activism: An Israeli Mizrahi Feminist Lens" (Women's Studies International Forum, 2023), "Mizrahi Jews and the Zionist Settler Colonial Context: Between Inclusion and Struggle" (Settler Colonial Studies, 2020), "Political and Social Protests From The Margins: The Role of Mizrahi Jews in Israeli Grassroots Activism" (Etnográfica, 2019).

João Manuel de Oliveira researches on bodies and their performativity on the broad field of Gender Studies, Critical Studies of Sexuality and Feminist Theory. João’s publications address intersectionality and hyphenation, homo/heteronormativity, de/subjugated knowledges and eccentric genealogies,anti-racist and anti-essentialist feminist theory, queer theory, trans* studies, contemporary arts and dance.   PhD on Theory and Method of Social Psychology (2009) and habilitation in Psychology (2024) in the field of Social Psychology of Gender, both at ISCTE.

Sandra Palma Saleiro (sandra.saleiro@iscte-iul.pt). PhD in Sociology. Researcher at the Centre for Research and Studies in Sociology (CIES-IUL). Invited Assistant Professor at the Department of Sociology, School of Sociology and Public Policy, of the University Institute of Lisbon (ISCTE-IUL). She has worked on research projects on gender, gender equality and gender violence; transgender, gender diversity; social inequalities and poverty and social exclusion; evaluation methodologies, evaluation of public policies and programs and projects. In her doctoral thesis entitled "Trans Genders. A sociological approach to gender diversity”,  she mapped the diversity of (trans) gender identities and expressions in Portuguese society. The most recent projects include the project "Gender Diversity, Citizenship and Health" at CIES-IUL, within the scope of the FCT - Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (2016-2022); the coordination of “National Portuguese Study on the Needs of LGBTI+ Persons and the reasons for discrimination on grounds of sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and sexual characteristics”, financed by POISE (2021-2022); the  local coordination of the projet “Cávado + Equal. Equality and Reconciliation in personal, family and professional life” (2020-2023).
