The research produced at Iscte in the field of health is framed within a Societal Health approach which emphasizes citizens' perspectives on health and disease. We have contributed to public policies, notably by working with key actors to include in the health agenda the specific needs and rights of vulnerable populations (for example, the elderly, immigrants, LGBT). The collaborative approach is present in both user involvement and interdisciplinary openness, such as intelligent solutions (in the functioning of health services, in physiotherapy or in ambient assisted living). We intend to go further and, by promoting interdisciplinarity and involving all stakeholders, apply data science to health problems, not only optimising health services from a patient-centred perspective, but also producing information to monitor public health policies.

About 20% of Iscte's scientific production is dedicated to health. This is a body of research with considerable diversity, but mostly compatible with the concept of Societal Health. The projects, publications, theses, and dissertations developed at Iscte include determinants of different levels, ranging from individual and group factors to community determinants, public policies, and environmental aspects. Areas such as Health Care Management, Sociology of Health, Public Health Policies, Psychology of Health or Health Technologies have been growing, involving a relevant number of projects and researchers.

In this context, the Iscte_Health creates an interdisciplinary space of health research, where researchers from different disciplinary areas meet. A routine of meetings and discussion explores the research links between various areas. The promoted actions are implemented in three groups of actions:

- Interdisciplinary research projects (Pi2)

- Ideas and Interventions Laboratory on Health (Labi2)

- Regular Meetings on research other interests (Reuni2)
