From 7 to 11 July 2025, Iscte – University Institute of Lisbon is hosting another edition of the Iscte International Staff Week, under the theme Promote EU Values and Active Citizenship in a Challenging World. Aimed at higher education professionals, the initiative focuses on promoting the core values of the European Union, such as democracy, human rights, equality, diversity, and sustainability in a constantly changing global context.

This edition welcomed 16 colleagues from partner universities across seven countries: Germany, Spain, France, Finland, Poland, Romania and Slovakia.

The opening session featured an address by the Vice-Rector for Internationalisation, Professor Maria das Dores Guerreiro, who emphasised the crucial role of higher education in defending European values and empowering active and engaged citizens.

This international week is part of the activities of the PIONEER Alliance and is supported by the Erasmus+ Programme, which plays a key role in promoting active citizenship, the exchange of good practices, and European cooperation in higher education.

The programme includes workshops, thematic sessions, hands-on activities, cultural visits, and networking opportunities between participants. Topics addressed include the Sustainable Development Goals, the role of social innovation, digital transformation, and the impact of artificial intelligence in higher education.

The week began with a virtual session on 2 July and concludes on 11 July with a closing session focused on collective reflection and the sharing of recommendations.
