The 'Latin America Today' course aims to critically analyse this region of the world through the eyes of European and Latin American guest lecturers. Our aim is to debate the current situation of Latin American countries in a context of international economic and technological competition and intensifying conflicts in the world. We invite you to explore the societal, political and economic aspects of this subcontinent in transition.
Some topics to explore:
- Interregionalism and global governance
- Populisms and political systems
- Conflict vs peace-building
- Culture and identity
- Latin America between the European Union, the United States and China
- Latin America in the international economic system
- Digital governance
As well as gaining experience, participants will have to consider writing an essay on a topic of interest to them as a method of end-of-course assessment.
In this new edition, the 14th Specialisation Seminar ‘Latin America Today’ will take place from 8 to 12 September 2025 at Iscte, jointly organised by the Iscte Centre for International Studies (CEI-Iscte) and Casa da América Latina (CAL).
