The undergraduate student in Telecommunications and IT Engineering from Iscte joins National University Futsal Team, which won the title of runner-up in the world at the 2026 Futsal University World Championship.
The competition took place in Warsaw, Poland, between the 1st and 7th of July. After winning the group stage, highlighted by victories over Finland (2-0) and Israel (21-0), Portugal defeated Lebanon in the quarter-finals (4-1) and Czechia in the semi-finals (8-4), losing the title in the final against Brazil.
David Paulino was called up after three observation periods and a final internship. "Representing the university team is a great source of pride, being among the 14 chosen to represent Portugal at the World Cup is also a great pleasure, because it means that my work is being recognized and, above all, I am doing what I love on the best stages in the world", says the student.
The achievement was also highlighted by AEISCTE. For Isabel Fonseca, president of the students' association, this achievement "is a source of enormous pride for the entire academic community", in addition to recognizing that "it is possible to reconcile the academic journey with high-performance sports", she adds.
