1. Continuous assessment:
a) Attendance and active participation in class, demonstrating the reading of texts on the list of references (minimum of 70% class attendance) - 40%;
b) An essay of between 1000 and 1500 words in which the students reflect on the contribution of the research project developed for their PhD, use two texts from the course's bibliography - 60%.

The essay can be written in Portuguese or English and must be submitted as a PDF on Moodle by the date agreed with the lecturer (January 2026). It must be an original piece of work carried out independently in accordance with Iscte's code of academic conduct. Detection of plagiarism or other forms of academic misconduct will result in the assessment being cancelled. A supplementary oral examination may be required in addition to the essay.

At the end of the year, doctoral students deliver a progress report, which includes the description of the current status of development of their thesis work and report the parallel activities of a scientific nature conducted. The progress report is assessed by two reviewers and the academic supervisor.
