A presente dissertação tem como principal objetivo caracterizar e tentar compreender como funciona o discurso de ódio digital no contexto do surf, percebendo as principais tendências que propagam discurso de ódio online.
Para tal, é feita uma análise da literatura existente sobre discurso de ódio, com especial foco na literatura de ódio que versa o contexto desportivo. Seguidamente é analisado o caso do surf em particular, e os episódios recentes de ódio digital na modalidade. Para aprofundar a pesquisa serão tidas em linha de análise as dez etapas do Circuito Mundial de Surf de 2023, com um enfoque nos comentários feitos nas transmissões ao vivo das etapas no canal de YouTube da World Surf League. Posto isto, os comentários serão classificados e analisados, de modo a verificar os principais padrões que regem os comentários de ódio digital no campeonato mundial de surf.
Com base nesta pesquisa foi possível comprovar que existe uma tendência significativa para o aumento de comentários e crimes de ódio digital na modalidade, e também ilustrar certos padrões comportamentais entre públicos de surf oriundos de diferentes países.

The primary objective of this dissertation is to elucidate the mechanisms by which digital hate speech functions within the context of surfing. This entails an investigation into the prevailing trends who disseminate hate speech online.
To this end, an analysis is made of the existing literature on hate speech, with a special focus on hate literature that deals with the sporting context. The case of surfing in particular is then analyzed, along with recent episodes of digital hate in the sport. In order to enhance the research, the ten stages of the 2023 World Surfing Tour will be analyzed, with a particular focus on the comments made in the live broadcasts of the stages on the World Surf League's YouTube channel. The comments will be classified and analyzed in order to verify the main patterns governing digital hate comments in the World Surf League.
The findings of this research indicate a notable increase in digital hate comments and crimes in the sport, as well as the emergence of specific behavioral patterns among surf audiences from diverse geographical regions.
