Após o dia 12 de julho de 1975, iniciou-se em São Tomé e Príncipe um regime de partido único, colocando no poder Manuel Pinto da Costa, do Movimento de Libertação de
São Tomé e Príncipe (MLSTP). As dinâmicas desse período são o objeto deste trabalho,
que tem como objetivo analisar os momentos iniciais do período pós-independência de
São Tomé e Príncipe. Para isso será privilegiado como fonte o jornal Revolução, perió-
dico criado pelo governo logo após a celebração da independência, sob a tutela do Ministério da Informação da República Democrática de São Tomé e Príncipe. O primeiro
exemplar foi publicado no dia 12 de julho de 1975. Através do jornal Revolução procuro definir e analisar o papel desempenhado pelo jornalismo governamental em São Tomé e Príncipe e como retratou os acontecimentos no país no período de 1975 a 1979.

After July 12, 1975, a single party regime was inaugurated in São Tomé and Príncipe,
placing Manuel Pinto da Costa, of the Liberation Movement of São Tomé and Príncipe
(MLSTP) in power. The dynamics of this period are the object of this work, which aims
to analyze the initial moments of the post-independence period of São Tomé and Príncipe. To this end, the Revolução, a newspaper created by the government shortly after the
celebration of independence, under the auspices of the Ministry of Information of the
Democratic Republic of São Tomé and Príncipe, will be privileged. The first issue was
published on July 12, 1975. Through the newspaper Revolução, I try to define and analyze the role played by governmental journalism in Sao Tome and Principe and how it
portrayed events in the country from 1975 to 1979.
