Esta tese explora o fenómeno da feminização de migrações. O estudo centra-se nas mulheres de São Tomé e Príncipe que imigraram para Portugal entre 2008 e 2019, trazendo à luz as mudanças deste fluxo migratório em comparação com períodos anteriores. Combinando abordagens quantitativas e qualitativas, esta investigação traça um perfil detalhado das imigrantes, revela as motivações destas mulheres, os desafios enfrentados na sua integração e o seu impacto tanto nas suas comunidades de origem como na sociedade de acolhimento. Ao sublinhar a importância de uma perspetiva de género, o estudo não só contribui para o campo académico, como também oferece conhecimentos valiosos para decisores políticos e profissionais ligados à migração e à igualdade de género. O impacto das conclusões promete redefinir a forma como compreendemos as dinâmicas migratórias contemporâneas e o papel crucial das mulheres nestes processos.

This thesis explores the phenomenon of the feminisation of migration. The study focuses on women from São Tomé and Príncipe who immigrated to Portugal between 2008 and 2019, shedding light on the changes in this migratory flow compared to previous periods. Combining quantitative and qualitative approaches, this research draws up a detailed profile of the immigrants, reveals the motivations of these women, the challenges faced in their integration and the impact on both their communities of origin and the host society. By emphasising the importance of a gender perspective, the study not only contributes to the academic field, but also offers valuable insights for policy-makers and professionals linked to migration and gender equality. The impact of the findings promises to redefine the way we understand contemporary migration dynamics and the crucial role of women in these processes.
