The Department of Accounting is one of the six departments that make up the Iscte Business School, offering at the different study cycles (degree, master's and doctorate) training of a high scientific and professional level through a demanding faculty with a national and international reputation. The Department offers a diverse range of curricular units, both optional and mandatory, specialized in the area of Accounting, which are included in the various programs of Iscte Business School.
29 teachers are part of the Department, the majority of them full time. Among the professors with doctorates there are several with doctorates completed at prestigious European and North American universities. Likewise, the Department has a group of guest professors with management roles in important national companies and institutions, as well as prestigious professionals in the areas of auditing and taxation, which has allowed greater and better interaction between teaching activity and business reality in the Department and in Iscte Business School. Also noteworthy is the authorship of numerous books, many of which are reference manuals in Portugal, both at teaching and professional level, which well portrays the pedagogical quality of the Department's teaching staff.
In addition to the Department's pedagogical notoriety, research at an international level has assumed increasing importance in the activities of its teachers. As a result, the Department's professors have published articles in the best international scientific journals in the field of Accounting, including, European Accounting Review, Journal of Business Ethics, Management Accounting Research, Accounting, Organizations and Society, Abacus, Accounting and Business Research, Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal, among many others.
The Department periodically holds research seminars in Accounting, having invited prestigious international academics in the area to present their most recent research work. Furthermore, the Department actively collaborates in holding international conferences in Accounting, having organized in 2011 the 8th European Network for Research in Organizational and Accounting Change (ENROAC) Conference, in association with Manchester Business School (UK) and Exeter Business School (UK).
