Por um melhor equilíbrio cultural e social
no contexto urbano das Caldas da Rainha, este
trabalho busca equacionar contrastes no que
tange à distribuição tipológica entre o seu centro
histórico e a sua margem urbana, bastante
evidente nas suas geografias física e humana.
Fruto de conclusões levantadas por análises
socio-urbanísticas da cidade, fez-se mister lidar
com as questões da diminuição da população
local das Caldas da Rainha, fenômeno concomitante
ao aumento considerável do número
de imigrantes dentro da cidade; além de valorizar
uma região pouco visitada pela população
citadina. Portanto, idealizou-se um centro
para integração de imigrantes, bem como uma
residência artística, ambas estrategicamente
implantadas em terrenos localizados em polos
opostos num eixo nascente-poente originado
pela presença da linha férrea da cidade, buscando
promover um maior fluxo interpopulacional.
O projeto insere-se em contextos desafiadores
da contemporaneidade onde questões
sociais intrínsecas convivem com fluxos migratórios
perpassando por novas sociologias
e identidades. Ainda, propôs-se a responder
desafios contemporâneos considerados de
maior urgência, traduzindo a imagem ideal
do autor sobre as Caldas da Rainha: um lugar
ainda mais inclusivo, enfatizando gregarismos
de uma ponta à outra, fomentando cultura e
criações artísticas. Já um convite aberto por a
cidade ser como é.

In the interest of a better cultural and social
balance in the urban context of Caldas da
Rainha, this work seeks to reduce the contrasts
in terms of typological distribution between its
historic centre and its urban fringe, which are
quite evident in its physical and human geography.
The conclusions drawn from the socio-urban
analyses of the city indicate that it was
necessary to address the issue of Caldas da
Rainha’s dwindling local population, a phenomenon
that goes hand in hand with the significant
increase in the number of immigrants
in the city, as well as provide the enhancement
of a region little visited by the city’s population.
To this end, a centre for the integration
of immigrants and an artists’ residence
have been conceived, both strategically located
on plots of land at opposite ends of an eastwest
axis created by the presence of the city’s
railway line, with the aim of promoting greater
inter-population flows.
The project is part of a challenging contemporary
context, where intrinsic social issues
coexist with migratory flows, permeating
new sociologies and identities. It also
aims to respond to present-day challenges
considered of greater urgency, translating
the author’s ideal image of Caldas da
Rainha: an even more inclusive place, emphasising
conviviality from one end to the other,
promoting culture and artistic creation. An open
invitation the city itself sends, by being the way
it is.
