Quando ambos os pais trabalham e têm filhos pequenos, o desafio central relaciona-se
com a gestão dos cuidados dos mesmos. Com a entrada da mulher no mercado de trabalho, as
dinâmicas familiares alteraram-se e o número de famílias de duplo emprego aumentou. A
conciliação entre o domínio familiar e profissional revela-se um desafio, que tem sido objeto
de estudo, pelo seu impacto no ajustamento e bem-estar do indivíduo, nas dinâmicas
familiares, assim como no desenvolvimento da criança. Neste sentido, o presente estudo teve
como objetivo analisar, em 124 famílias nucleares portuguesas de duplo-emprego, com
crianças em idade pré-escolar, a associação entre as perceções maternas e paternas de
conciliar trabalho- família, com o Envolvimento do Pai. Os instrumentos utilizados foram: um
questionário sociodemográfico, Escala de Envolvimento Parental: Participação em Atividades
de Cuidados e de Socialização e a Escala Conciliar Trabalho e Família. Os resultados
indicaram que, quanto maior a participação do pai na Brincadeira e Lazer no Exterior, mais
elevados os Constrangimentos associados com o Conciliar Trabalho e Família, na perspetiva
materna; quanto menor a participação do pai nos Cuidados Diretos, maior a perceção materna
de que a Família interfere com o Trabalho; quanto maior o envolvimento do pai na dimensão
Lazer no Exterior, maior a perceção de Stress e de que o Trabalho Interfere com a Família,
para a mãe. Ou seja, para a mãe, um maior envolvimento do pai nos Cuidados (Diretos) está
associado com menor conflito, enquanto um maior envolvimento em atividades de
Socialização está associado com maior conflito.

When both parents work and have small children, the central challenge relates to the
management of their care. With the entry of women in the work market, family dynamics
changed and the number of bi-parental working families increased. The balance between the
family and the professional domain is a challenge that has been object of study, both for its
impact on the adjustment and well-being of the individual, on family dynamics, as well as on
the child's development. In this direction, the present study aimed to analyze the association
between mother and father perceptions of work-family balance with the Father Involvement
in 124 Portuguese bi-parental working families with preschool children. Instruments used
were: a sociodemographic survey, Parental Involvement: Care and Socialization Activities
and Combining Work and Family scale. The results indicated that the greater the participation
of the father in Play and Leisure outdoors, the higher the Strains associated with Work and
Family Balance, in the maternal perspective; the lower the father's participation in Direct
Care, the greater the maternal perception that the Family interferes with Work; the greater the
involvement of the father in the dimension of Leisure outdoors, the greater the perception of
Stress and the fact that Work Interfers with Family, for the mother. That is, for the mother,
greater involvement of the father in (Direct) Care is associated with less conflict, while
greater involvement in Socialization activities is associated with higher conflict.
