O presente estudo tem como tema “As redes sociais informais dos idosos institucionalizados
e a intervenção do serviço social”, sendo o objetivo principal saber qual a importância da
rede informal no bem-estar do idoso bem como quais as estratégias de intervenção do
serviço social na potencialização dessas mesmas redes.
Foi usada uma metodologia qualitativa do tipo indutivo e foram realizadas entrevistas
semidiretivas a assistentes sociais de seis lares (três privados lucrativos e três da rede
solidária) dos Concelhos do Barreiro, de Palmela e do Seixal.
Conclui-se que a rede informal dos idosos é uma rede muito presente e preocupada,
levando desta forma ao bem-estar do idoso. Sendo um dos objetivos do serviço social, na
intervenção com idosos que residem em lar, a promoção das redes informais, verifica-se
uma preocupação e sensibilidade por parte da maioria das assistentes sociais e instituições
em incluir a rede na vida da instituição e no novo projeto de vida do idoso, através da
criação de diversos mecanismos de facilitação e estratégias de intervenção.

The topic of the study is "Informal social networks of the institutionalized elderly and the
intervention of the social service". The main objective is to learn the importance of the
informal network in the welfare of the elderly, as well as the strategies of intervention of the
social service that enhance the aforementioned networks.
An inductive approach (qualitative method) was applied, and semi - structured interviews
were conducted with social workers from six elderly care homes (three private and three from
nonprofit institutions) of the Municipalities of Barreiro, Palmela and Seixal.
It concludes that the informal network of the elderly is a very present and concerned
network, thus leading to the welfare of the elderly. As one of the objectives of Social Work, in
the intervention with elderly people living in elderly care homes, the promotion of informal
networks, there is a concern and sensitivity of the majority of social workers and institutions
to include the network in the life of the institution and in the new project of life of the elderly,
through the creation of several facilitation mechanisms and strategies of intervention.
