Os trabalhadores das artes e da cultura têm vindo a dedicar-se ao cumprimento dos parâmetros e das regras das políticas financiadoras e à demonstração do valor cultural, na tentativa de obterem o mesmo tipo de apoio inquestionável para a cultura que existe noutras áreas, como a saúde ou a educação. No entanto, esse apoio não tem existido. Como é que se demonstra o valor cultural? Que informação existe sobre esse valor? E em que consiste a valorização cultural?
Começando pela definição dos conceitos de valor cultural e de valorização, passando por algumas das teorias de demonstração de valor que têm sido abordadas na literatura internacional, vamos enquadrar o valor cultural enquanto questão política. Que papel poderá ter a produção de conhecimento na valorização das artes e da cultura e que peso tem a participação de todos aqueles que o integram nas tomadas de decisão? Para percebermos a importâncias das vozes coletivas dos trabalhadores das artes e da cultura, este estudo pretende perceber quem é que elas são e como se organizam no contexto português, através de entrevistas em 10 organizações formadas por e para trabalhadores das artes e da cultura.

Arts and cultural workers have been focused on complying with the parameters and rules of funding policies and to demonstrate cultural value, in an attempt to achieve the same kind of unquestioning support for culture that exists in other areas, such as health or education. However, this support has not happened. But how is cultural value demonstrated? What information is there about this value? And what does cultural valorisation consist of?
We will start with the definition of the concepts of cultural value and valorisation, we will approach some of the theories of value demonstration that have been discussed in international literature and then we will frame cultural value as a political issue. What role can the production of knowledge have in valuing the arts and culture and what weight does the participation of all those involved in decision-making have? To understand the importance of the collective voices of workers in the arts and culture, this study aims to understand who they are and how they are organized in the Portuguese context, through interviews with 10 organizations formed by and for workers in the arts and the culture.
