A crise de asilo é um fenómeno que veio destabilizar a rotina de um vasto leque de países, principalmente Grécia e Itália, e consequentemente, vários sectores da sociedade. Deste modo,
o objetivo é determinar se houve um aumento na preocupação da opinião pública em relação à
imigração e a influência da crise de asilo nas eleições legislativas de 2018. A revisão da literatura vai tentar perceber como funcionam a emigração e a imigração em Itália, o sistema eleitoral, o sistema partidário italiano e as eleições legislativas em 2018. Estas são o principal objeto de estudo devido ao abuso da questão da imigração na campanha eleitoral e como esse facto se relaciona com a crise de asilo. No que toca ao aumento da preocupação da opinião pública com a imigração são utilizados questionários realizados a uma amostra da população italiana nos anos de 2013 e 2018. É feita uma comparação entre ambos e uma análise específica de cada ano para captar o comportamento da opinião pública relativamente à imigração e perceber se a crise de asilo juntamente com a opinião pública surtiu algum impacto nas eleições e consequente desfecho. Tal como a análise dos dados empíricos indica, este estudo sugere que a crise de asilo influenciou o resultado das eleições legislativas de 2018 embora não tenha sido
o único fator que afetou o resultado das mesmas.

The asylum crisis is a phenomenon that has disrupted the routine of several countries,
especially Greece and Italy and consequentially many sectors of society. Therefore, the main goal of this thesis is to determine whether the general public concerns regarding immigration increased and the influence of the asylum crisis on the legislative elections of 2018. The
literature review will try to understand how emigration and immigration works in Italy, their electoral system, the Italian party system and how the legislative elections of 2018 went. The
latter are the main study object due to how the immigration issue was exploited in the electoral campaign and how that relates to the asylum crisis. The increase of the general public concerns regarding immigration was analysed through questionnaires given to a sample of the Italian
population in 2013 and 2018. Both years were compared, and each year analysed specifically to capture the public opinion towards immigration and to understand if the asylum crisis combined with the public opinion have had an impact on the elections and their outcome. As
the analysis of the empirical data indicates, this study suggests that the asylum crisis influenced the outcome of the general election even though it was not a determining factor for the result.
