A presente investigação assume como intenção a compreensão da ética da solicitude, a
forma como é assimilada e vivida pelos assistentes sociais no seu agir profissional.
Interessa-nos também compreender como é que estes profissionais lidam com a ética da
solicitude no que respeita à relação com o outro enquanto ser humano, constituído por
várias dimensões e vivencias em situações de atendimento e intervenção social. Um
outro aspeto sobre o qual nos vamos debruçar é a relevância da ética da solicitude nas
relações, entre o assistente social e o sujeito de atenção, as instituições, os seus pares e
equipas.
No que diz respeito à metodologia utilizada, esta é uma investigação de carácter
qualitativo, utilizando como técnica de recolha de dados, a entrevista semiestruturadas
realizada a sete assistentes sociais.
Constatou-se que, apesar da ética da solicitude ser compreendida pelos
assistentes sociais como uma ética da alteridade, do cuidado ou da responsabilidade, não
é um termo muito utilizado e que os seus constituintes estão presentes no seu agir
profissional.
Considera-se pertinente o aprofundamento da reflexão sobre a ética da solicitude
e os fundamentos teóricos do seu conceito e também a reflexão em contexto académico,
nomeadamente, no Curso de Serviço Social.
As questões do outro, o respeito pela sua singularidade, a aceitação do outro
como um igual ao “eu” são premissas fundamentais da ética da solicitude e, por isso,
motivo de reflexão e aprofundamento da mesma.

This research has in its core the intention of understanding the solicitude ethics, the
way it is assimilated and experienced by social workers in their professional actions. We are
also interested in knowing how these professionals deal with the ethics of solicitude,
especially regarding their relation with the other as a human being, looking into it
through the lenses of different analytical dimensions and experiences in care and social
interventions, as well as the relevance of this solicitude ethics in the relations between
the social worker and the subject, the institutions, their peers and their multidisciplinary
teams.
Regarding the methodology here used, this is a qualitative research based on semi
structured interviews done to seven social workers.
We found that, despite the solicitude ethics being understood by social workers as an
ethic of otherness, care or responsibility, it is not a widely used concepted although
present in how the subjects perceived their professional actions.
It is considered pertinent to deepen the reflection on the solicitude ethics and the
theoretical foundations of this concept, together with its use in an academic context.
The issues of the other, respect for their individuality and uniqueness, acceptance of
the other as an equal to the “me” are key aspects to the solicitude ethics and, therefore,
reason for reflecting and deepen our understanding of it.
