No âmbito dos campos de Estudos de Género e Estudos Fílmicos, a presente dissertação pretende circunscrever o lugar em que estas áreas se encontram. Traçando a linha que percorre as quatro vagas feministas, procuro sublinhar o contributo do cinema independente contemporâneo para a luta pela igualdade de género, através, por um lado, da abordagem de temáticas como a violência sexual e, por outro lado, de uma representação cinematográfica que faça jus à complexidade da experiência feminina, contrapondo os estereótipos perpetuados durante o último século do cinema. Neste sentido, irei analisar três filmes independentes contemporâneos que encarnam o espírito da quarta vaga feminista: Portrait of a Lady on Fire (Sciamma, 2019), Promising Young Woman (Fennell, 2020) e Women Talking (Polley, 2022).

Within the fields of Gender Studies and Film Studies, this dissertation aims to circumscribe the place in which these areas meet. Tracing the line that runs through the four feminist waves, I seek to highlight the contribution of contemporary independent cinema to the fight for gender equality, through, on the one hand, the approach to themes such as sexual violence and, on the other hand, a cinematic representation that does justice to the complexity of the female experience, opposing the stereotypes perpetuated during the last century of cinema. Therefore, I will analyze three contemporary independent films that embody the spirit of fourth wave feminism: Portrait of a Lady on Fire (Sciamma, 2019), Promising Young Woman (Fennell, 2020) e Women Talking (Polley, 2022).
