Este estudo explora a interseção crítica entre a proteção da criança e os contextos humanitários através de uma human rights approach, salientando a necessidade urgente de intervenções robustas num mundo cada vez mais marcado por crises. O primeiro capítulo analisa a evolução histórica dos direitos da criança, traçando a trajetória desde os primeiros esforços de advocacy até ao estabelecimento de quadros internacionais abrangentes. Os capítulos seguintes examinam os principais instrumentos humanitários que regem a proteção da criança e os seus direitos, destacando a relevância e aplicação na contemporaneidade. É apresentada uma análise aprofundada da situação atual das crianças a nível global, destacando a pobreza multidimensional e as situações de violência, abuso e exploração como fatores de risco significativos. Distingue entre crises de eclosão rápida e de desenvolvimento lento, oferecendo uma compreensão comparativa da forma como estes contextos afetam o bem-estar e a segurança das crianças. É apresentada a estrutura humanitária que facilita a resposta coordenada aos desafios de proteção da criança em contextos humanitários, através de standards e frameworks adaptados. Este estudo emprega uma análise qualitativa de entrevistas semiestruturadas a trabalhadores humanitários de Child Protection e revela conhecimentos fundamentais sobre os principais desafios enfrentados no terreno.

This study explores the critical intersection of Child Protection in humanitarian contexts through a human rights lens, emphasizing the urgent need for robust interventions in a world increasingly marked by crises. The first chapter delves into the historical evolution of children’s rights, tracing the trajectory from early advocacy efforts to the establishment of comprehensive international frameworks. Subsequent chapters examine key humanitarian instruments that govern child protection, highlighting their relevance and application in contemporary settings. The study provides an in-depth analysis of the current plight of children globally, with a particular focus on multidimensional poverty and the pervasive threats of violence, abuse and exploitation that serve as significant risk factors. It distinguishes between rapid-onset and slow-onset crises, offering a nuanced understanding of how these contexts uniquely impact child welfare and safety. Additionally, the humanitarian structure is presented, establishing how frameworks and standards facilitate coordinated responses to child protection challenges in humanitarian settings. This study employs qualitative analysis of semi structured interviews with humanitarian workers specialized in Child Protection, revealing key insights into the prominent challenges faced in the field.
