Na freguesia de Alvares, o fenómeno de abandono rural conjugado com os frequentes incêndios
florestais ao longo das últimas décadas transformaram a floresta num espaço abandonado com
manutenção e limpeza muito reduzida.
A quantidade de matéria combustível vai aumentando com o passar do tempo e é urgente
criar alternativas para promover a correta gestão da atividade florestal na região. Os
ecossistemas provenientes da floresta possuem um papel preponderante em aspetos como
alterações climáticas, proteção de espécies, retenção de dióxido de carbono da atmosfera, fonte
de recursos e devem ser geridos e cuidados da melhor forma.
Estas circunstâncias levaram à criação de um projeto chamado “AIGP Alvares”, que
pretende realizar uma gestão privada em escala do território com o objetivo de criar uma floresta
limpa e sustentável que permita também retirar rendimentos financeiros da sua gestão e entrar
assim na bioeconomia de base florestal. Através do aproveitamento financeiro proveniente de
produtos florestais como a madeira, resina, biomassa e outros, será possível impulsionar a
economia local e ao mesmo tempo realizar uma gestão responsável e sustentada dos
ecossistemas florestais.

In the parish of Alvares, the phenomenon of rural abandonment combined with frequent fires
over the last decades, has turned the forest into an abandoned space with lack of maintenance
and cleaning.
The amount of combustible material keeps increasing over time and it is urgent to create
alternatives to promote proper forest management in the region. Forest ecosystems play a
crucial role in aspects such as climate change, species protection, carbon dioxide retention,
resources and the they must be managed in the best possible way.
These circumstances have led to the creation of a project named “AIGP Alvares” which aims
to carry out landscape-scale private management of territory with the goal of creating a clean
and sustainable forest that also allows for financial returns from its management. By harnessing
the financial benefits derived from forest products such as timber, resin, biomass and others, it
will be possible to boost the local economy while also engaging in responsible and sustained
management of forest ecosystems.
