A presente dissertação tem como objetivo analisar os fatores que impulsionam o
desenvolvimento empresarial de pequenas e médias empresas (PMEs), tendo como
estudo de caso a Hidrotruck, Lda. Visa compreender a relevância de um
crescimento empresarial estruturado, integrado e sustentável, bem como identificar
os principais desafios e oportunidades associados a este processo. A investigação assenta na
aplicação de Problem Structuring Methods (PSMs), com vista à identificação de ações de
melhoria e à análise das respetivas relações de causa-efeito. Para tal, foram utilizadas as técnicas
Nominal Group Technique (NGT) e DEcision MAking Trial and Evaluation Laboratory
(DEMATEL), reconhecidas pela sua eficácia na análise e visualização de sistemas complexos.
O estudo foi desenvolvido com a colaboração de um painel de especialistas composto por
colaboradores, principais clientes e parceiros da empresa. A aplicação das metodologias
permitiu identificar determinantes críticos para o crescimento do negócio, compreender as
interdependências entre variáveis e priorizar ações de melhoria. Este trabalho contribui, assim,
para a definição de um plano estratégico de desenvolvimento estruturado e integrado da
Hidrotruck, Lda., reforçando a sua capacidade de crescimento sustentável e de criação de valor.

This dissertation aims to analyze factors that drive the business development of small
and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), taking Hidrotruck, Lda. as a case study. It
seeks to understand the importance of structured, integrated and sustainable business
growth, as well as to identify the main challenges and opportunities associated with
this process. The research is based on the application of Problem Structuring Methods (PSMs),
with the goal of identifying improvement actions and analyzing their respective cause-andeffect
relationships. To this end, the Nominal Group Technique (NGT) and DEcision MAking
Trial and Evaluation Laboratory (DEMATEL) were used, both recognized for their
effectiveness in analyzing and visualizing complex systems. The study was conducted with the
collaboration of a panel of experts composed of company employees, key clients and partners.
The application of the methodologies enabled the identification of critical determinants for
business growth, the understanding of interdependencies among variables and the prioritization
of improvement actions. The results of this work contribute to the development of a structured
and integrated strategic plan for Hidrotruck, Lda., strengthening its capacity for sustainable
growth and value creation.
