Many different cities coexist in Lisbon, each one of them with its own and unmistakable personality to which architecture and its building agents contribute a lot.
The Master focuses on a contemporary and interdisciplinary approach to a specific case of city (Lisbon) and its architects (their ways of thinking, imagining, build and representing the city) and construction agents (urban planners, civil engineers, landscape architects, builders, technical and political leaders, promoters and clients). In the Master's, the areas of architecture and urbanism are combined with the social sciences in a joint effort between form, civilizational value and cultural significance of the city.
The Master's seeks to capture and enhance the interest of graduates and/or specialists in the areas of Lisbon Studies and Culture; Architecture and Urbanism; Geography and Landscape; Archives and Libraries; Museology and Education; Curatorship and Mediation; Tourism and Heritage; Economy and Innovation and Real Estate.
Goals
- To provide an open, plural, updated and interdisciplinary approach to architecture and to Lisbon's construction agents, developing the ability to take a transdisciplinary X-ray of the city's visual culture;
-To enable students to pursue studies in the areas of specializations, thus contributing to their employability and personal development, investing in a process of integrated knowledge production, privileging access to archives, direct contact with spoils and construction processes, as well as in-situ contact in the city;
-To assume knowledge as a precondition to any vision and intervention, training future multidisciplinary qualified agents to think and act on Lisbon's built environment.
Note: Students who successfully complete all the course units of the first year of the Masters may apply for a 2nd cycle Postgraduate Diploma in Architecture and Visual Culture in Lisbon.
