O património cultural é um fator de unificação e identificação das sociedades. Reconhecer o valor do património é indispensável para a salvaguarda do mesmo e salvaguardar o património é uma forma de preservar a história coletiva de determinado grupo. Este reconhecimento dos valores patrimoniais de determinada comunidade ou grupo, permite a criação de narrativas interpretativas com as quais as sociedades se podem identificar e ligar. O presente trabalho recai na identificação de valores patrimoniais (materiais e imateriais) existentes na freguesia de Alcântara, Lisboa, que possam fundamentar a construção de narrativas sobre este espaço, numa perspetiva de envolvimento e ligação com a comunidade, assim como de valorização turística. Ao compreender quais os bens patrimoniais que são mais relevantes bem como os que apresentam um maior significado para os habitantes da freguesia de Alcântara é possível propor uma narrativa para o Alcântara, assente nos seus valores patrimoniais.

Cultural Heritage allows the unification and identity of given communities. Acknowledging the importance of Cultural Heritage is essential towards its preservation. Heritage preservation grants the maintenance of the collective history. This acknowledgment of heritage assets, belonging to a certain community or group, sets the basis to create interpretative discourses to which communities can identify and connect. This work identifies cultural heritage assets (material and intangible) in the neighbourhood of Alcântara, in Lisbon. Identifying these assets allows the creation of discourses in connection with the community as well as treasuring tourism in this area. Through the analysis of the most relevant assets and the ones with most significance for the inhabitants of Alcântara it was possible to propose a narrative based on its heritage assets.
