The Master in African Studies is one of the oldest and most prestigious in both Europe and the Portuguese-speaking territories. In existence since 1989, the program provides training for professionals in diverse fields: research and teaching, the business sector, diplomacy and public administration, as well as national, international and civil society organizations.

The MSc is structured in such a way that students acquire a comprehensive and interdisciplinary vision of the African continent and its diasporas. The course is organized in compulsory Curricular Units which analyze the the main political, social and cultural issues and dynamics of the diverse African and diasporic contexts.

Students can also choose optional Curricular Units in other Iscte courses. In addition to its acadenic specialization, the course has a strong focus on professional competencies, enabling students to develop research and internships in public and private institutions.
